Army Showcase Sunday - Ryan's Lumineth Realm-Lords!

Hello one and all! With the exciting news that Warhammer: Age of Sigmar is entering its 3rd edition soon, the hype around the Mortal Realms is bigger than ever!

This week we have Ryan, a long-time player of Warhammer 40,000 (with more than a handful of armies), just beginning to dip his feet into Age of Sigmar! For his first foray into the game, he's going with one of the newest factions - the Lumineth Realm-Lords. Let's see what he has to say about his army!

So, Ryan, why start Age of Sigmar with the Lumineth Realm-Lords?

I chose this army as i loved the elves from Lord of the Rings, with their perfect phalanxes and graceful acrobatics during combat. Their style of war is about balance and symmetry, with giant blocks of spearmen holding down the centre. And with supporting forces flanking and killing the enemy, it made me remember the grand battles in the LOTR movies.

You’re pretty experienced with painting, did you employ any new techniques or approaches this time round?

I challenged myself to paint a predominantly white army, so I had to try to find a good recipe that can bring out the highlights and have that pristine white armour.

I experimented with contrast, using it to make glazes and also played around with the contrast medium - mixing it with the contrast to get nice smooth cloth.

I did some wet blending on the loreseeker as it was a big part of the miniature.

I’m sure you’re excited to get these guys out on the tabletop and play some games! What’s the general strategy here? Any tricks up their sleeves?

The Vanari Wardens (spearmen) are the building blocks of any Lumineth force. My strategy is to run blocks of them, making the enemy's charge break against the shield wall.

When they get charged, the Wardens get +1 to Wound and +1 Rend. They punch back hard with sun metal weapons (mortal wounds on 6s).

While the wardens pin the centre, my archers (Vanari Sentinels) deal death from afar, being able to shoot out of line of sight with the same sun metal ability.

My flanks are secured by the Dawnriders, the heavy cavalry of the aelves to act as the pincers or the counter-punch to an oncoming enemy.

Oh by the way, all Lumineth are spellcasters too! :) Every unit can cast spells to buff themselves or deal damage to the enemy.

So this is just under 1000 points, what’s next for your Lumineth army?

The next step is to paint up some of those beautiful Vanari Bladelords, the bodyguards to the Scinari mages.

I would also go get some more mobility in the form of more Dawnriders and Hurakan Windchargers.

My ranged firepower is still a little small, so I'll start to include my ballistas and get more archers.

I would like to finish this army in the future with a bang by getting the Archmage god, Teclis the Illuminator.

Thanks for that Ryan! We can't wait to see your spearmen and archers on the tabletop very soon at one of our Age of Sigmar events in the future!

And thanks to all of you for reading! Do stay safe - we will defeat the forces of Nurgle together! See you real soon (:
